"Monsieur LaFleur, Monsieur Debonair! We go back so many years and have shared many laughs and great memories together. You are a pillar of the industry, a yenta – which I mean in the best way possible! – and a real talent. But most of all, you are a sweet friend whom I love dearly."
“Rocky IS the face of interior design in Los Angeles! His incredibly infectious passion for our industry inspires everyone involved in design: from students just entering into the field to the most experienced of professionals. Rocky’s insatiable curiosity and desire to continue to learn and discover is what I personally most love about him. Anyone who has ever even had a passing contact with Rocky comes away with a sense of insight and delight. We are all blessed by having Rocky LaFleur in our lives.”
"Rocky...what can one say about Rocky? The man who serenaded me with show tunes each morning when I joined Kneedler Fauchere 15 years ago; the man who has immersed himself deeply and with soulful intention in our design community for the past 35 years; the man who knows everyone, or quickly gets to know everyone, regardless of what continent you might be visiting; the man who seamlessly reaches out to emerging professionals and design students while managing meaningful relationships with the most acclaimed and highly regarded in our industry; the man who laughs easily, loves tenderly, fights passionately, plans strategically, dreams hopefully, and gives selflessly. To summarize Rocky in a quote is impossible. We need a long and complex novel just to scratch the surface. Quite simply...without Rocky, this industry we all love would not be the same."
"Rocky knows everyone! Everyone knows Rocky! I don’t remember ever not knowing him. He is one of a kind. Would that our industry have 100 more Rockys, we would never have a bad day if that were the case. A warm, wonderful human being. So well deserving of this and any honor."
"DID YOU KNOW? Rocky LaFleur really is like the Mayor, not just of the PDC or West Hollywood BUT of our A+D community as a whole! Everyone seems to not only know Rocky but adore him... we all know THAT is not easy to maneuver in the “discerning” A+D culture.
DID YOU KNOW? He co-founded the American in Paris fete and series of events. What first started out as a chic, VERY small breakfast in a Paris pied-à-terre has become the HOTTEST ticket at the Paris City Hall during the Paris Deco Off + Maison & Object shows in Paris each January. He’s like the friendly welcome-wagon host and the literal glue to connect us all to the AMAZING behind-the-scenes invitations.
If you’ve ever been fortunate to go to the events then… you know exactly what I’m talking about!
DID YOU KNOW? He is the oldest of 9 children, born in rural Jefferson, South Dakota (population of 443 people) and the French Canadian LaFleur family has been there as homesteaders since the 1860’s. 443 people? I think that if you add up everyone Rocky knows across the world and put them all in Jefferson, the town’s population would be well more than 10 fold!
DID YOU KNOW? Rocky’s heart is as welcoming and vibrant as is his laugh… once again, if you know him you know exactly what I mean!"
"Not only is Rocky an integral member of the Los Angeles design and education community, he possesses an extraordinary joie de vivre that energizes all who are lucky enough to know him. My favorite part of being Rocky’s friend is that look he gets in his eyes when he’s cooking up some new plan or collaboration you won’t be able to say no to—you can spot it from across the room! Congratulations, dear Rocky."
"This Rocky is never a fighter! Always a connector and a peace maker, spreading friendship and love through the industry!"
"No matter what the challenge, Rocky LaFleur always elevates the discussion and thus the outcome!"
“I will open up doors for you that you didn’t even dream existed" is a quote that Rocky has always used when he's with our family.
"I have known and admired Rocky since the earliest days of my company, J. Robert Scott. His genuine love for all facets of the design industry coupled with his enthusiasm for art and artists, make him a key figure in the community."
"An effervescent personality coupled with tenacity, wisdom, sensitivity and some well-placed humor are but a small part of what has made our Rocky LaFleur a valued treasure within the design community. He is a man of insatiable appetites — curious, for liquor, for intellect, for great design and above all, for conversation. He has an output equal to what he takes in is the miracle of the man. You'd be hard-pressed to find a leader who could match the volume of exquisitely nurtured friendships curated along the way. His reach is far and wide. A remarkable resource for what’s rumored to be many barons of the industry, Rocky is a proven entity for which there is no equal. I speak for all of us here at KNA Design -- we are honored to call Rocky a close friend and confidant. His wit can lift the heaviest of spirits, as appealing to the lighter side of life is one of our greatest design challenges. We raise a glass -- or two -- to our hero."
“Rocky has always demonstrated a special perception, a 'pulse' of the industry and community, something which makes people gravitate to him for advice.”
“The word that comes to mind with Rocky is JOY. Not only is he a great connector and champion for the design industry, but he has a way of making you feel included, truly valued and, quite honestly, just happy to be around. That sort of charisma and spark cannot be taught!”
"Upon having dinner one night with Rocky at Vibrato Grill, he came rushing in and exclaimed 'Order me an extra-dry martini, my car is on fire in the parking lot and I'll be right back after I speak with the firemen!''"
“Never mind his encyclopedic grasp of the design world; Rocky’s joyful celebration of Life is utterly contagious. He shares his ebullient soul with everyone – and everything – he encounters, constantly forging friendships and building communities around him. We love him for that reason, and for so many more.”
"Rocky LaFleur has been a part of my entire life in design which started in West Hollywood. I have continued to use the West Hollywood design district as my primary source. Rocky is -- very simply -- the single most important industry connection of my career. Over a decade ago, I had a very high visibility, high budget, high rush project. I selected three main sources to supply the project with the agreement that for their exclusive involvement in this project they had to meet or exceed the difficult deadlines with their high standards of quality uncompromised. Rocky with Kneedler Fauchere represented two of the three partners. As I was installing the project, I came across Rocky on his knees inspecting a cabinet. I hadn’t asked him to be there or required installation assistance. His explanation was that he just wanted to be there at the end of this difficult project to make sure absolutely everything was perfect. He had brought a finisher and repair team to see that each and every piece, when placed, was flawless. I had never experienced that extraordinary level of project dedication and have not had that experience since. Rocky is always there when you need him and he is happy to go the extra distance to be sure that your project exceeds expectations. Beyond this extraordinary professionalism, Rocky’s regard for the education of our industry partners and the future preservation of our history and archives has saved much of our important history and has inspired future generations. He is truly unforgettable!!!"
"Rocky -- You are a mentor, a teacher, a wealth of knowledge and most of all a friend. You cultivate inspiration, camaraderie and bring out the best in most everyone. You challenge our community to strive for something greater and are willing to roll up your sleeves to do the same. In the words of Bette Midler: 'Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows, lies the seed that with the sun's love in the spring becomes the rose.' That rose is you, Mr. Rocky La Fleur. Thank you for bringing such beauty to our world."
"He is his name personified... A touchstone for what it means to be a professional in our industry and a rock of support for so many in the Los Angeles design community."
